The Harvest is Great...
Pastor Grant Armstrong
It’s about this time of year that I start looking at my “To Do” list of goals for 2008-2009, and I
start to feel a little overwhelmed. Do you know the feeling? We experienced some remark-
able growth within the youth ministry in this fall season, and it is very exciting. We’ve seen
some great participation and commitment from our students, even though we’ve been un-
able to use our “home field” in the chapel for the first half of this school year. Now that we
are poised to return to our “new and improved” meeting space, I believe we have the
potential for even more growth. There’s just one problem: We need more adults to help.
You know of the passage in Matthew 9 where Jesus and His disciples are walking through the cities and towns around Galilee, and he noticed the great
needs of the people as He proclaimed the Kingdom of Heaven among them.
The Bible says, “He felt great pity for the crowds that came, because their problems were so great and they didn't know where to go for help. they were like sheep without a shepherd.” (Matthew 9:36) He laments that the
harvest - the opportunity to help people recognize the love of God - is so
great. The problem is, there are so few workers.
We have an opportunity to reach countless young women and men in this
community. So many junior and senior high school students desperately need to
know that there are people who love them. It is important to Jesus that those who
claim the name “Christian” would show that love to students who don’t know where
else to go for help. We have a chance to make a lasting impact on Livingston County
when we show the love of Jesus Christ to young disciples - and especially to those
who have not yet made a decision to follow Jesus Christ.
There are lots of ways to help and serve!
The student ministries needs more
than teachers. We need people who
can help plan local service projects, set up snacks, welcome and greet stu- dents, coordinate parent involvement,
get youth plugged in to worship opportu-
nities, and countless other ways that we
can minister to and among these amazing
students. If you are interested in learning
more about how you can be a part of God’s plan
to serve local students through your church’s youth ministry, please contact Pastor Grant Armstrong at 815-842-1157 or grant@pontiacfumc.org. Thank you, workers!
